WAIKIKI PHOTOSHOOT
Forty-five minutes, one stretch of beach, a short walk from your hotel. From $399, sunrise or sunset, and the whole set lands in your inbox the next day.
Most people come to Hawaii with four or five days and a list. A photoshoot that eats half of one of them is a hard sell — so in Waikiki we made it the opposite: you walk out of your lobby, we meet you on the sand, and forty-five minutes later you are back with the morning still ahead of you.
We are a photo and video team based here, shooting this beach most weeks of the year. That means we know which end is empty at six, where the palms throw shade at eleven, and how to keep two hundred strangers out of your frame on a busy evening.
HOW A MINI SESSION WORKS
-
Tell us your hotel
Almost everything in Waikiki is within a ten-minute walk of somewhere worth photographing. Once we know where you are staying we name the meeting point — usually a corner of the beach you have already walked past.
-
We pick the hour
Sunrise for an empty beach, the hour before sunset for warm light and a busier shoreline. On a tight schedule we work around the plan you already have: before a luau, after check-out, between a flight and a dinner.
-
Forty-five minutes, one stretch
A mini session covers one area at walking pace — sand, water, palms, whatever the light is doing. No driving, no changing locations, nothing to carry.
-
Photos the next day
Everything we take reaches you within 24 hours, so the photos exist while you are still on the island. Retouched favorites land within a week.
WHERE WE SHOOT IN WAIKIKI
The quiet end by Kaimana
Past the hotels toward Diamond Head, the beach narrows and empties out. Soft sand, calm water behind the reef and the crater right there in the background. Our default when somebody asks for Waikiki without the crowd.
The banyans in Kapiʻolani Park
Old trees with canopies wide enough to park a whole family underneath, five minutes from the hotel strip. When the sun is directly overhead and the sand is unbearable, this is the one place nearby that still works.
The central beach and the Duke statue
The postcard: surfboards, the shoreline curving toward Diamond Head, the bronze statue draped in leis. Packed by mid-morning, almost empty at first light — which is the whole argument for a sunrise session.
Fort DeRussy and the western sand
Wider beach, fewer people, lawns and palms behind you, and the sun setting over the water in front. The easiest sunset in Waikiki if you are staying at the Hilton end.
The lagoon and Magic Island
Flat, sheltered water at the far western end, and a short walk further to the peninsula that looks back at the whole coastline. Families with small children end up here more often than anywhere else.
Eight spots with the timing for each, in our full guide: the Waikiki photoshoot guide.
WAIKIKI PHOTOSHOOT FAQ
How much is a photoshoot in Waikiki?
The mini session is $399: roughly three quarters of an hour in one place within walking distance of your room, no travel charge. A full hour anywhere on the island is $550. Both include every frame we take, delivered the next day.
Do we need a car?
No. That is the point of this page: every spot we use in Waikiki is a walk from the hotels. If you want somewhere that needs a drive — the windward beaches, the North Shore — that is an hour session rather than a mini.
Sunrise or sunset in Waikiki?
Sunrise if you want the beach to yourselves and soft light with Diamond Head behind you. Sunset if you want warmth and color and do not mind people in the distance. Jet lag usually makes the first one easier than it sounds.
Can we shoot on our hotel’s beach or terrace?
The sand is public and open to everyone. The lawns, pools and terraces belong to the hotel, and professional photography there needs the hotel’s own permission. We stay on public ground unless your resort has said yes in writing.
Is 45 minutes enough?
Two people, a small family, or a proposal followed by portraits — comfortably, yes. Bigger groups, several outfits or more than one part of the island need the full hour.
What if it rains?
Waikiki showers usually pass in minutes, and the light right afterwards is often the best of the day. We watch the radar with you and shift the start time rather than cancel.
Can you photograph a surprise proposal here?
Often — Waikiki is busy enough that another photographer on the beach is invisible. We agree on a signal in advance and stay at a distance until you are down on one knee.
