OAHU PROPOSAL PHOTOGRAPHER
Surprise proposals captured discreetly — we help you plan the spot and the timing, stay hidden until the question and photograph every second of it. Photo and video, all photos within 24 hours.
Planning to propose on Oahu? You only get one chance at this moment, and we make sure it is captured beautifully. Ocean Eyes Hawaii is a photo and video team based in Waikiki: we know which beaches are empty at sunrise, where the light is softest at sunset and how to stay out of sight until you are down on one knee.
We plan the proposal with you step by step — the spot, the time, the signal — so on the day you only need to bring the ring. After the question, we photograph a short couple session while the emotions are still real.
HOW WE PLAN YOUR SURPRISE PROPOSAL
-
Tell us your idea
Message us with your date, where you are staying and what you imagine: sunrise or sunset, a quiet beach or a big view, just the two of you or family nearby.
-
We choose the spot and the time
We suggest the location and the exact time for the best light and the fewest people, and send you a simple plan: where to walk, where to stop, where to kneel.
-
We stay hidden
We arrive early and blend in like any photographer at the beach. You get a signal to start — your partner has no idea we are there.
-
The question, the reaction, the ring
We capture the whole moment from a distance: the walk, the question, the reaction and the hug — then step in to congratulate you.
-
A couple session right after
While the emotions are still there, we photograph a short couple session at the same spot, with close-ups of the ring.
-
Photos within 24 hours
Your full gallery comes the next day, so you can share the news while you are still on the island. Edited favorites follow in 3–7 business days.
PROPOSAL SPOTS WE RECOMMEND ON OAHU
Lanikai Beach
At sunrise you may have the beach almost to yourselves. We wait among the trees at the back of the sand, so your partner only sees an empty shoreline and the Mokulua islands.
Kualoa Regional Park
The open lawn and long beach let us stay far back with a long lens. Mokoliʻi island makes the backdrop recognizable in every frame.
Makapuʻu coast
For couples who love drama: cliffs and lava rocks above deep blue water. Go early, before the lookouts get busy; the wind adds movement to hair and dresses.
Waikiki & Diamond Head
The easiest surprise if you are staying in Waikiki — a sunrise walk on the beach with Diamond Head behind you looks completely natural.
Magic Island
A short walk along the lagoon at sunset. Locals jog and picnic here every evening, so a photographer with a camera never looks out of place.
Tantalus Lookout
A small hilltop lookout with Honolulu and Diamond Head below — for a city panorama instead of a beach, and a quieter, more private moment.
Ko Olina lagoons
If you are staying at the resorts, the lagoons are a few steps from your room. Palms frame the moment, and golden hour is the time to go.
North Shore
A sunset proposal on a wide beach far from the city. Plan about an hour’s drive from Waikiki — and dinner in Haleiwa afterwards.
Some parks and lookouts need a photography permit or have limited parking — we check this for your spot in advance. Twelve more ideas with tips for each: best places to propose on Oahu. Proposing on another island? See proposal photography across Hawaii.
PHOTO + VIDEO: RELIVE THE MOMENT
Photos keep the emotions; a video keeps the words. Add a videographer to your proposal and get a short film of the moment — the walk, the question and the yes — plus drone footage of the coast where it is permitted.
What Couples Say
Real feedback from couples who proposed with us
“I didn’t expect it to feel this easy.
No awkward directions, no pressure, just kind of happened naturally.
And yeah… he said yes.”
“I was stressing about this proposal for weeks lol.
They helped me figure out the exact spot, timing, everything… and she had zero clue.
The moment, the reaction — all of it got captured perfectly. 100% worth it.”
“I wanted to do something special with family there, and this was perfect.
Everything felt super real, not staged.
Looking back at these photos now… yeah, we’re really glad we did this.”
PROPOSAL PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ
How much does a proposal photographer cost on Oahu?
A proposal in Waikiki with a short couple session afterwards fits into our 45-minute mini session, from $399. One hour anywhere else on Oahu is $550, plus a travel fee that depends on the location. Video and drone footage are added on request.
Is it normal to hire a photographer for a proposal?
Yes — it is one of the most popular photoshoots in Hawaii. You only propose once, and with a photographer hidden nearby you get the real reaction instead of a shaky phone video.
How do you stay hidden?
We arrive early, look like any photographer on the beach and agree on a signal with you in advance. Your partner will not notice us until we step in to congratulate you.
Where is the best place to propose on Oahu?
For sunrise: Lanikai Beach, Kualoa Regional Park or the Makapuʻu coast. For sunset: Magic Island, Ko Olina or the North Shore. Tell us what you imagine, and we will suggest the spot that fits it.
What if it rains?
Showers on Oahu are usually short, and we watch the forecast with you. If the weather or your plans change, we move the proposal to another time or day.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as you know your dates — sunrise and sunset slots on popular days book up first. Last-minute proposals are sometimes possible too, so just message us.
Do we get couple photos after the proposal?
Yes. Right after the proposal we photograph a short couple session at the same spot, including close-ups of the ring.
Can you film the proposal too?
Yes — our videographer can record the whole moment while the photographer shoots, plus drone footage where it is permitted.
