KAUAI PHOTOGRAPHER
The greenest island, photographed properly: Hanalei under its waterfalls, the dry cliffs of the south shore, and canyon country an hour above the sea. We fly in from Oahu and work around the weather, not against it.
Kauai rewards people who plan around it. The north is spectacular and wet, the south is sunny and quieter, and the difference between a grey session and a glowing one is often a forty-minute drive. Knowing which half of the island is working on a given morning is most of the job here.
We are a photo and video team based in Waikiki, flying over for sessions on Kauai throughout the year. We watch your week's forecast, reserve what needs reserving, and show up with a plan for the light you are actually going to get.
KAUAI LOCATIONS WE KNOW WELL
Hanalei Bay
Two miles of sand under green mountains that still have waterfalls running down them days after rain. The old pier gives you a line to walk out on, and in summer the bay is flat enough to stand in. This is the view people mean when they say Kauai.
Hāʻena and the end of the road
Where the highway stops and the Nā Pali cliffs begin. Visitors from outside Hawaii need a reservation to enter the state park — entry and parking are booked separately, up to thirty days ahead — so this is a date we fix early. The park reopened to visitors in October 2026 after a closure.
Poʻipū
The dry south shore, and our default when the north is under cloud. Low sandstone shelves, little coves, warm light late in the day. Monk seals haul out on this beach regularly; federal guidance asks for fifty feet of distance, and we keep it.
Shipwreck Beach and Māhāʻulepū
East of Poʻipū the shoreline turns into cliffs, dunes and a coastal trail with almost nobody on it. It is the most cinematic stretch on the south side and the best alternative to the north when the weather closes in.
Wailua and the east side
River mouth, coconut groves and a waterfall you can photograph from the roadside. Convenient if you are staying in Kapaʻa or Līhuʻe, and sheltered enough that mornings here are usually calm.
Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe
Red rock, deep valleys and a view across the island from 3,000 feet. An hour of driving up a single road, cooler than the coast, and completely unlike every beach photo anyone else has. Clouds roll in by late morning, so we go early.
WEATHER, SEASONS AND WHICH SIDE TO SHOOT
Pick the side by the month
The north shore is green because it rains there — most of it between November and March. In those months we shoot Poʻipū and the south. From May to September the north is at its best and Hanalei is unbeatable.
Sunrise east, sunset west
Kauai is round, so the island gives you both: first light on the Wailua side, last light on the south and west coasts. We choose by where you sleep, not by preference.
Rain passes, waterfalls stay
A shower here usually lasts minutes and leaves the cliffs streaked with water for the rest of the day. The green you came for is the direct result of weather other islands do not get.
Winter surf on the north shore
Between October and April the north coast takes serious swell. Beautiful from the sand, dangerous at the waterline — we stay well back and keep children away from the shorebreak.
HOW A KAUAI SESSION WORKS
Send us your dates and your hotel. We come back with two options — one for a clear morning, one for a wet one — and keep both open until the day before. Reservations that need booking ahead, like the end of the road at Hāʻena, we flag immediately so you are not surprised. An hour is $550 plus travel; your full gallery arrives within 24 hours and the edited selection in 3–7 business days.
KAUAI PHOTOSHOOT FAQ
How much does a Kauai photoshoot cost?
An hour on Kauai is $550, plus a travel charge for the hop across and the day it takes. We give you the exact figure once we have your date; nothing is buried inside a package name.
What is the best place for photos on Kauai?
Hanalei Bay in summer for the mountain-and-beach view, Poʻipū or Māhāʻulepū in winter when the north is wet, Waimea Canyon if you want something that is not a beach at all. Tell us your week and where you are staying and we will narrow it to one.
Do we need a reservation for Hāʻena State Park?
Yes, if you are not a Hawaii resident: entry and parking are reserved separately and sell out, and they open thirty days in advance. If your heart is set on the end of the road, tell us early and we will build the session around a slot.
Who arranges the photography permit?
We do. County parks on Kauai need a county film permit, while most of the island’s beaches are state land and go through the state film office. Which one applies depends on exactly where we stand, and that is our problem to solve, not yours.
Is it worth coming to Kauai just for the photos?
If you are already on the islands and want a background nobody else in your feed has, yes. Kauai has fewer people in the frame than anywhere else in Hawaii and scenery that does not need a filter. If your trip is short and based in Waikiki, Oahu will give you more for less travel.
What if it rains on our date?
We move, we do not cancel. The island has a wet half and a dry half, forty minutes apart. Our job is to watch the forecast with you and pick the side that is working that morning.
Island-hopping? We also photograph across Oahu, on Maui and on Hawaii Island.
