HAWAII WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
From two people on a quiet beach to a full day with guests — photographed across all four main islands by a team that lives here. Photo and video, every frame delivered within 24 hours.
A wedding in Hawaii can mean three completely different days, and the first thing worth deciding is which one you actually want. Two of you and an officiant is a morning. Twenty guests is an event with chairs and shade and a different permit. A full day with getting-ready and dinner is a wedding anywhere, just with better scenery.
We photograph all three, and the practical advice changes completely between them — so this page separates them rather than pretending one answer fits.
THREE KINDS OF WEDDING DAY
Just the two of you
A ceremony on the sand with an officiant and nobody else. Ten minutes of vows, an hour of portraits afterwards. This is the format most couples who write to us end up choosing, and it has its own page.
Ten to twenty guests
Parents, siblings, a couple of friends. Still simple, but now you need shade, somewhere to sit and a permit that allows a gathering rather than a photo session. Beach parks and private lawns both work; which one depends on the island.
A full wedding day
Getting ready, first look, ceremony, dinner. On that scale we work with a venue or planner rather than a stretch of public beach, and coverage is priced by the day rather than the hour.
Just the two of you? That is an elopement, and it has its own page with the whole process. Already set on Oahu? See weddings on Oahu.
WHICH ISLAND TO MARRY ON
Oahu
Everything is close: officiants, florists, hair and makeup, and a hundred flights a day in and out. The most affordable island to marry on and the easiest for guests flying from the mainland.
Maui
The island people choose for the evening. Resorts sit on the sand, the ceremony faces the sunset, and winter adds whales offshore. County paperwork wants a fortnight, so book earlier here than anywhere else.
Kauai
Green cliffs and empty shoreline, for couples who would rather have scenery than infrastructure. Fewer vendors, a smaller airport and weather that decides which half of the island you use.
Hawaii Island
Black lava, white sand and an open sky, with the Kohala resorts strung along the dry coast. The quietest of the four — you will not be sharing your ceremony beach with another wedding.

WHAT TO SORT OUT FIRST
- The date and the hour before the venue. Light decides more than décor here, and the good hours are the first and the last of the day.
- Who is coming. Guest numbers change the permit, the location and sometimes the island.
- A licensed officiant. Hawaii requires one registered with the state; an ordained friend does not qualify unless they have gone through that process.
- The license, within thirty days. Apply online, then both of you appear in person before an agent to collect it.
- Permits for the ground you stand on. Ours to arrange, once the spot and the headcount are settled.
The legal steps in full: how to elope in Hawaii — the license part applies to any wedding here, not just elopements.
QUESTIONS COUPLES ASK BEFORE BOOKING
How much does a wedding photographer cost in Hawaii?
Short ceremonies go by the hour — $550 here on Oahu, with the flight added if you are marrying elsewhere. A whole day gets its own quote once we have seen the schedule and the venue, and know whether video is part of it. Numbers, not packages with names.
Which island is best for a wedding?
Oahu for cost and convenience, Maui for a sunset ceremony, Kauai for scenery with nobody in it, Hawaii Island for lava and quiet. The deciding factor is usually your guests: the more people flying in, the stronger the case for Oahu.
Can we marry on a public beach with guests?
Up to a point. The state permits ceremonies on unencumbered shoreline, counties control the parks behind the sand, and group size, chairs and arches change what is allowed. Past roughly twenty people most couples move to a private venue — we will tell you where the line falls for your spot.
Do you travel between islands for a wedding?
Yes, routinely. Waikiki is home, and for a full day elsewhere we come in the night before — which has the useful side effect of letting us see the venue at the same hour you will be using it.
What about the legal side?
Sixty-five dollars to the state, no residency test and no waiting period — but the clock starts the moment you collect it in person, and it stops a month later. Whoever marries you must be registered with the state as a performer. The full sequence is in our guide.
Do you offer video?
Yes. A second person films while the photographer shoots, which is how the vows survive in your own voices, with aerial footage wherever the location permits it.
