MAUI WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Ceremonies timed to the last light of the day, on an island built around it. Resort lawns, sheltered bays and upcountry estates — photographed by a team that flies in from Oahu and knows the paperwork.

Maui is where most Hawaii weddings with guests end up, and the reason is geographical: the resorts sit on coasts that face the evening, so the ceremony, the portraits and the first drinks all happen inside the best hour of the day without anyone moving far.

What catches couples out is the ground rather than the weather. A lawn, a stretch of sand and a private estate are three different legal situations here, and the difference decides how many people can stand with you. We work that out early, so the guest list and the location stop fighting each other.

WHERE MAUI WEDDINGS HAPPEN

Resort lawns in Wailea

The simplest way to have chairs, an arch and twenty guests without arguing with anyone: the property sets the rules and the beach is thirty seconds away. Expect a site fee and a vendor list; we work within both.

Kapalua and the north-west bays

Sheltered water, lava points and older trees, with hotel ceremonies happening on the lawns above. Cooler and greener than the south, and the one corner of the island where cloud is as likely as sun.

South shore beaches

Polo, Ulua and the small Wailea crescents take a short ceremony beautifully if the group is genuinely small. Permits here cover the sand; the grass behind it belongs to the county and has its own rules.

Upcountry estates

Pasture, eucalyptus and the mountain behind you, fifteen minutes above the heat. Cooler air, a completely different palette, and useful when the coast is windy.

Private estates on the coast

Where most larger Maui weddings actually happen. One owner, one set of rules, room for a dinner afterwards — and no permit conversation at all, since it is private land.

HOW THE DAY RUNS HERE

Afternoon preparation

Dresses, rings, the parents arriving. Resort rooms here are bright and face the water, which makes this part easy to photograph without extra lighting.

Ceremony at the end of the day

Maui weddings run late because the island faces the sunset. We work the ceremony with the sun behind the guests and the light coming over your shoulders.

Portraits while the sky turns

The twenty minutes after the ceremony are the best of the day. We take you back to the water while the guests have a drink.

Dinner and the rest

Speeches, dancing, whatever follows. For a full day we quote by the day rather than the hour, and we stay for as much of it as you want.

Nobody else coming? Then it is an elopement on Maui. Still weighing up islands? Compare them on weddings across Hawaii.

MAUI WEDDING FAQ

How much is a wedding photographer on Maui?

Short ceremonies are priced by the hour — $550, plus travel for the flight over. A full day is quoted once we know the schedule and the venue. We will send you a number rather than a menu of package names.

Can we get married on a Maui beach with guests?

A small group, yes, with the right permission. The county controls the park behind the sand and the state controls the shoreline, and both care about numbers, chairs and arches. Past about twenty people, a resort lawn or private estate is simpler and usually cheaper than fighting the paperwork.

How early should we book?

For a sunset ceremony in winter, as far ahead as you can — those dates go first, and the county likes about two weeks of notice for permits on top of that. Summer is easier but the best hours still fill.

What is the weather risk?

Modest, because weddings here cluster on the leeward half of the island, and that half stays dry for most of the year. Push the ceremony toward the north shore or out past Hana in winter and the odds change completely — so we steer you away from both.

Do you photograph Hawaiian ceremony elements?

Yes, and they photograph beautifully — the lei exchange, a blessing, a conch shell at the opening. Your officiant will offer them; none are compulsory, and together they turn ten minutes of vows into something with a shape.

Can you cover a two-day event?

Yes. A welcome dinner the night before and the wedding itself is a common pattern here, and it means we arrive early enough to see the venue in the same light you will have on the day.
