KAUAI ELOPEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER

Green cliffs, empty sand and a ceremony nobody walks through. We photograph elopements across Kauai, choose the side of the island that is working that week, and arrange the permissions.

Couples pick Kauai when they want the background to do the talking. No resort strip, no crowd to edit out of the frame — just a shoreline with mountains behind it and whoever you brought with you, which is often nobody.

The island asks one thing in return: respect the weather. Kauai is the wettest of the four and the rain is exactly why it looks the way it does. Our job is to know which half is dry on your date, reserve anything that needs reserving, and have a second spot ready that you would be equally happy standing in.

CEREMONY SPOTS ON KAUAI

Hanalei Bay

Mountains with waterfalls on them, a wooden pier and two miles of sand. In summer the bay goes glassy and this is the most romantic place to stand in the state. In winter it takes serious swell and we move you south.

Poʻipū and Baby Beach

The dry side, and the reason a Kauai winter wedding works at all. Small coves, low sandstone shelves and reliable late light. Monk seals rest on this shoreline; we stay fifty feet off, as federal guidance asks.

Māhāʻulepū

Cliffs, dunes and a coastal path with hardly anyone on it, fifteen minutes beyond the resorts. If you want the ceremony to feel like the two of you at the edge of the world, this is where we take you.

Wailua and the east shore

Coconut groves, river mouth and sheltered morning water. Convenient for couples staying in Kapaʻa, and the one coast where a sunrise ceremony is both easy to reach and usually calm.

Hāʻena, at the end of the road

The point where the road quits and the cliffs take over. Anyone living outside the state books a slot to get in, with entry and parking handled as two separate reservations released a month out — so the ceremony is built around the slot, not the reverse.

A YEAR ON THIS ISLAND, IN SHORT

  • November to March: north shore wet and loud with surf, south shore warm and open. Winter elopements happen at Poʻipū.
  • April and October: genuinely either. We keep two locations live until a few days out.
  • May to September: Hanalei at its best, flat water, long evenings. The island’s busiest stretch, so dates book earlier.
  • Any month: mornings are calmer than afternoons, and the trade winds build as the day goes on. A veil is much easier at eight than at four.

KAUAI ELOPEMENT FAQ

How much does a Kauai elopement cost?

An hour with us is $550; the flight across and the day it eats are quoted separately and confirmed up front. Beyond that: $65 to the state for the license, $10 for a certified copy, plus your officiant, flowers and leis.

North shore or south shore?

Month decides it. From roughly November to March the north is wet and the surf is big, so we marry you at Poʻipū or Māhāʻulepū. From May to September Hanalei is the best place on the island to stand. April and October go either way, and we watch the week.

Do we need a reservation to elope at Hāʻena?

Unless you live here, yes. Two separate bookings — one to walk in, one to park — released a month ahead and gone quickly. The park came back online for visitors in October 2026 after being shut. If this is the spot you want, say so the moment you have dates.

Who gets the permit for the ceremony?

We do. A county beach park means a county film permit; the shoreline below it is state ground with a separate application; and a handful of spots sit inside state parks, which want more notice than either. The right one depends on precisely where you are standing.

Is Kauai too quiet for an elopement?

That is usually the point. There are no crowds to work around and no hotel strip in the background. The trade-off is fewer vendors and a smaller airport, so plan a little further ahead than you would on Oahu.

What happens if it rains on the day?

Something that happens here regularly and rarely ruins anything. Showers pass in minutes, leave the cliffs running with water, and often hand you a rainbow. If a front settles in over the north, we move you to the dry side — forty minutes, not a cancelled day.
